A Poor Woman’s Secret to Success – A Story of Resilience and Determination
Have you ever faced a decision that has so much uncertainty and carries so much risk?
Like having to leave that crappy but reliable job and start a business that does not guarantee success?
Like leaving a toxic but financially stable relationship to venture into the reality of struggling as a single parent?
To move from a familiar place to a new environment without the security of family and friends?
Meet this woman that I encounter this week.
An Ecuadorian woman whose husband was murdered in front of her and her children…
A woman who walked for 11 months and 2 weeks with 3 small children of age 7,4,2.
Crossing the border of Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, into the US
Braving thirst, hunger, heat, kidnapping, rape, fear, and emotional distress…
But yet, determined to beat the odds of life’s uncertainty…
Do you have a job for me, she begged in Spanish? Stopping me on my midday walk break…
She was at it again, walking for five hours already…
Knocking at every office door, every apartment office,
Asking for any available work to feed her children…
No English, no paper, no family, no home…
And ready to retell her unique tale of survival!
How do you find the courage to take on such a journey? I asked her…
3 things, she exclaimed in a fast and light-up Spanish tone!
I knew clearly why I wanted to run away. I wanted to give my children a chance at life.
I had a deep conviction that I had to make it alive. Throughout the adversities, I kept saying “I have to make it”.
I took brave actions even when I had no confidence or the certainty that I would make it!
At that moment I burst into tears!
Amazed at the resilience of a still poor but already successful woman…
Also grateful to my parents for paying for my Spanish lessons.
My friend, you have a decision to make (big or small) and you are stressed about it
You are struggling because of the uncertainty…
What if? How is it going to work?
And so, you are giving into anxiety, frustration, and anguish…
My ask from you today is for you to
Think long and hard about why you have to do this?
Summon the deep conviction or faith that this has to happen…It has to work out in the end…
And lastly, identify the actions you have to take and advance with bravery in the face of uncertainty…
For it is in the moment you are NOT confident but find a way to do it any way that holds the greatest opportunity for growth and success!
Go and conquer for you and your family! You are capable of so much more and deserve such a better future!
Have a safe week!
